Shameless language starts with you.
It's wonderful that you also use the word vulvalippen! We want to make as many people as possible aware of their language and give them a gentle nudge toward shameless wording.
That's why we're running an on- and offline campaign – posters in the streets, social media, newspaper ads, and ultimately a formal request to Van Dale to include "vulvalippen" in the Dikke Van Dale dictionary.
If everyone donates one euro, we can already reach a whole lot of people. Will you join us?

Merkin March
On September 5 we march through Utrecht. Together we make it clear that there is nothing to be ashamed of — not of our bodies, our genitals, or the words we use.
With pride, and preferably with a hand-made merkin of our own, we walk from Neude to Domplein. That way we grow the visibility of the word vulvalippen and leave shame out of our language.
Make your own merkin
In the run-up to the march we're hosting Merkin Workshops. You'll make your own merkin together with others — and wear it with pride during the march.
Everything you want to know
What is a merkin?
A merkin is a pubic-hair wig. Originally worn to disguise hair loss — we're reclaiming it as a symbol of pride around a part of the body no one should feel shame about.
Why vulvalippen and not schaamlippen?
The Dutch word schaamlippen literally means 'shame lips'. Vulvalippen is anatomically correct and helps remove shame from our language — a step toward a shame-free society.
When and where is the Merkin March?
On Saturday 5 September 2026 at 2:00 p.m. we set off from Neude in Utrecht and finish at Domplein. Sign up via the "I'm marching!" button above for updates on the exact program.
How is the money raised spent?
Donations fund the campaign: from stamps to GPs and letters to Van Dale to posters in bus shelters. See the donation overview above for what each amount makes possible.
Can I take action on my own?
Yes! Use the word vulvalippen, share the campaign, donate, join the march, or get in touch via info@schaamteloos.org if you'd like to contribute in another way.
